Bloomberg News

Leading PC maker Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston named Michael Capellas acting chief operating officer and said Senior Vice President John Rose, a key lieutenant of ousted Chief Executive Eckhard Pfeiffer, resigned. Capellas, 44, had been chief information officer. Enrico Pesatori, 58, will succeed Rose in heading the unit that makes servers and workstations. Pesatori had been head of worldwide marketing and will keep that post until a successor is chosen. The changes come as Compaq searches for a successor for Pfeiffer, who was ousted in April. Compaq shares rose 31 cents to close at $23.38 on the NYSE. The stock has dropped more than 40% for the year to date.
