A group dedicated to revitalizing rundown neighborhoods and promoting homeownership is seeking volunteers to help refurbish 22 Los Angeles homes Saturday.
The nonprofit group, Los Angeles Neighborhood Housing Services, will hold its semiannual Neighborhood Pride Day on Saturday, said Los Angeles housing service official Bonique Edwards.
The group hopes to attract more than 1,000 volunteers to paint and repair eight homes in Los Angeles’ Hyde Park neighborhood and 14 in Vernon-Central, Edwards said.
In October, more than 700 volunteers joined Los Angeles housing service staffers to paint and fix up homes in Pacioma and San Pedro.
The homes that volunteers will tackle Saturday are close together, to create a recognizable difference in the appearance of the community when the work is completed, Edwards said. The services offered during Neighborhood Pride Day are free to the low- and moderate-income families and senior residents of the community.
The 15-year-old Los Angeles service is part of a nationwide network of organizations that help low- and moderate-income people become homeowners.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. To volunteer, call (213) 749-7797, Ext. 28 or Ext. 14.
