Unwanted Calls

Share

Re Mike Downey’s “Our Right to Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Telemarketing,” June 2: I support state Sen. Liz Figueroa’s SB 988, a bill to stop unwanted telephone solicitations.

People pay to have their numbers placed on the “do not call” list. Vendor claims that people will “miss out” on their offers are bogus. If people are afraid of “missing out,” they won’t subscribe to the list. This is an important quality-of-life bill. The right of citizens to have their home lives protected from harassment by phone vendors is more important than the so-called right of vendors to make unsolicited calls. Phone vendors have called me after midnight!

There is an alternative to phone harassment: media ads. Phone vendors don’t like to buy them.

Re SB 988, which would make it illegal for telephone solicitors to call and drive you nuts day after day--I am for it 100%. As for the real estate brokers, they and remodeling contractors are the worst. Asking them to remove your name from their list simply does not work.
