* JoAnn Darling Montgomery; Scion of Pioneers

JoAnn Darling Montgomery, a retired county employee who was a lifelong Ventura County resident, died at her Ventura home Friday. She was 68.

Montgomery was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Oxnard. Her grandparents, David Darling and Josephine Beckley Darling, were among Ventura County’s pioneers arriving in the late 1880s.

Montgomery graduated from Ventura High School and earned an associate of arts degree from Colorado Women’s College.

For 18 years, Montgomery was a secretary for the Ventura County government. She retired in 1987.

She was active at Faith Community Church of Oxnard and was a member of the Saticoy Historical Society.

Montgomery is survived by two sisters, Jean Darling of Escondido and Wendy Darling of San Francisco; a daughter, Susan Rodearmel Brustad of Fort Collins, Colo.; a son, David Rodearmel of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Faith Community Church. Pastor Rick Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park near Ventura.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Community Church Missionary Fund, 723 S. D St., Oxnard, or to a favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
