Are All the Big New Houses Necessary?

Share

I just read Lew Sichelman’s May 30 column entitled “Immigrant Labor Proving Critical to Building Boom.”

What if the nation built 100,000 fewer single-family houses? Or what if the nation stopped building such absurdly oversized housing, most of which is about twice as large as necessary?

Whatever happened to the unselfish concept that the nation should live within its means?

I find the need to use immigrant labor to max out housing for the present generation just appalling. They seem to have no concept of conservation or planning for future generations--just pave over the undulating land as if it and other resources were in endless supply.
