Autodesk Sets Reorganization

Autodesk Inc., which makes design software used by architects and engineers, said President Eric Herr has resigned and the company will reorganize into four divisions to focus on new markets. Herr, 51, who worked at Autodesk for seven years, is retiring to “a quiet life in the northeastern U.S.,” the company said. Chief Executive Carol Bartz is the new president. Bartz has been leading Autodesk toward developing new products and selling more software to niche markets to lessen its dependence on its AutoCAD, which accounts for about half of sales. The company formed a unit called Autodesk Ventures to work on new Internet-related products. Shares of San Rafael, Calif.-based Autodesk rose $1.44 to close at $26.25 on Nasdaq.
