The Guideway transit system continues making progress toward final approval later this year. The next stop for the projected four-mile route, which will traverse the Irvine Business Complex and John Wayne Airport, is an environmental impact report. Designers have drafted a system with two loops spanning about 950 acres. The system is bordered by MacArthur Boulevard, Jamboree Road, Main Street and Michelson Drive.

City Council members said the project should help all residents by connecting business and entertainment centers and help relieve traffic concerns. City officials said construction bids will be solicited specifically from firms in the city, although companies everywhere are encouraged to apply.
