A 76-year-old woman who lost her home in a fire has received numerous offers of help from the community. Jimmie Phillips’ mobile home in the 24000 block of Muirlands Boulevard was destroyed Sunday morning; the American Red Cross has put her up in a hotel and given her money for food and clothes. A neighbor offered to let her stay in a spare room, and other friends will gather this weekend to sort through the remains of Phillips’ trailer. Members of Phillips’ church also started a relief fund to help pay for her living expenses.

Phillips realizes she is lucky to have survived the blaze. “I wasn’t hurt, but if I had been asleep I couldn’t have gotten out,” she said. A spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority said the blaze was caused by an electrical problem. Donations can be made to Jimmie Phillips, care of Lake Hills Community Church, 23331 Moulton Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA 92653.
