NEWPORT BEACH

When Leigh Steinberg’s clients say, “Show me the money,” the Newport Beach sports agent’s response is: “Show me the size of your heart.” For athletes, giving to charities ought to be a priority, Steinberg told a room of about 70 Parent Help USA supporters at a luncheon Wednesday afternoon. That’s particularly important when the charity works with youths, he said. “Unlike adults, kids can’t speak for themselves,” he said. The charities “speak for the kids.”

Parent Help USA is a nonprofit organization that provides parental counseling, child care, a food bank and home visits to check up on families. The Costa Mesa-based organization was founded in 1986 by Mothers and Others Against Child Abuse. Sally Kanarek, director of Parent Help USA, estimated that more then $5,000 was donated at the event.
