Meade Sees Profits Zoom in 1st Quarter

Meade Instruments Corp., an Irvine designer and manufacturer of telescopes and accessories, reported that net income for the first fiscal quarter more than doubled, to $1.14 million, or 16 cents a share, from $554,000, or 8 cents a share, for the year-ago period. Sales for the quarter ended May 31 advanced 16% to $17.1 million from $14.8 million.
