Cabletron Profit Beats Estimates

Cabletron Systems Inc. said profit from operations rose to $7.28 million, or 4 cents a share, in its fiscal first quarter, compared with break-even results a year ago, as the computer-networking company pushed into new markets amid falling sales of older equipment. Analysts expected earnings of 1 cent a share, according to First Call. Revenue increased 1% to $349.5 million.
