California Amplifier in Camarillo said sales for the first quarter ended May 29 increased 45% to just over $13 million, up from $9 million for the first quarter last year.

Net income was $358,000 or 3 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $485,000 or 4 cents per share for the first quarter last year. These results also compare with sales for the preceding fourth quarter of $10 million and net income per share of 1 cent.

“The sales increase was due primarily to satellite product sales,” said Fred Sturm, chief executive officer. “We continue to see opportunities in the satellite marketplace and expect this to be key to the sales growth in the current fiscal year.

“In addition, we are encouraged by the recently announced investments by Sprint and MCI WorldCom in domestic wireless cable operators, and we look forward to capitalizing on opportunities generated for wireless products [because of that].”

California Amplifier designs and manufactures microwave amplifiers, down converters and antennas.
