An estimated 12,000 architects, engineers, contractors and others involved in nonresidential construction are expected to descend on the Los Angeles Convention Center this week for a two-day gathering featuring the latest advancements in commercial building methods and materials.

The convention, which begins Thursday and is billed as the largest commercial-building-products show of its kind, is expected to generate at least $3.2 million for local hotels in overnight lodging revenue alone.

The gathering marks the 43rd annual convention and exhibit for the Construction Specifications Institute. More than 1,000 exhibitors are expected to display the latest innovations in construction products and materials such as El Nino-proof doors that can withstand 25-foot surges of water and window coatings that block out infrared solar radiation.
