Share

Cisco Systems will fund a $1-million computer-networking research laboratory in memory of Internet pioneer Jonathan Postel at USC’s Information Sciences Institute in Marina del Rey. Cisco Chief Technology Officer Judy Estrin will announce today at the Internet Society’s INET ’99 conference in San Jose the formation of the Jon Postel Center for Experimental Networking, which will open in the fall. The endowment will enable ISI, Postel’s longtime employer, to host a visiting scientist and a graduate student each year for five years. Postel, who ran the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority and conducted computer network research during his 21-year tenure at ISI, died in October.
