Angels Manage to Make Headlines

Share

I am not a fan of major league baseball. Never have been, probably never will be.

But after reading about Terry Collins’ contract extension and Bill Bavasi’s reaction to the Angel players’ revolt, I am a big Bill Bavasi fan. It is refreshing to see a baseball executive who is a throwback to the bygone era of accountability and personal responsibility.

No doubt the Angels have been cursed with untimely injuries this season. But if the Angel players had the same mental toughness as their front office and manager, they would be destroying teams in their division, rather than themselves.

Do you think Phil Jackson could teach the triangle offense to Terry Collins?

It is great to see the Angels’ $80-million investment in Mo Vaughn pay off. Without him, they would be dead last in offense in the American League. Instead, they rank 13th out of 14 teams, well ahead of the Oakland A’s, whose team salary is just slightly less than the combined salaries of Vaughn and Tim Belcher.
