From Times Wire Reports

Members of the gay community turned out to celebrate their pride with parades in Manhattan, San Francisco and elsewhere. Some marched in evening gowns, some danced to disco music and some had political messages. It was the 30th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, when patrons of a gay bar in New York’s Greenwich Village fought back against a police raid. In New York, some parade-goers complained of heavy-handed treatment by police officers who ejected a group with a slogan criticizing Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani. In San Francisco, a half-million spectators stood five-deep along the parade route.
