Gunmen wearing black clothes and carrying rifles opened fire on two armored truck security guards at the Desert Inn hotel-casino Monday, sending bullets into windows of another resort and startling tourists on the busy Strip.

One guard was shot in the arm and the second guard was shot twice in the leg. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Steve Meriwether said. No one else was injured.

No money was taken and no suspects were in custody.

Police were unsure if there were two or three gunmen. Their getaway car, a sport utility vehicle, was found at the Vagabond Inn just down the street from the Desert Inn.

Meriwether said that about 9:44 a.m., a Brink’s Inc. armored truck arrived at the south side of the Desert Inn. When one guard stepped from the vehicle, the assailants emerged from some bushes and began firing.

Shots hit the Frontier hotel-casino across the street from the Desert Inn.
