Riverside Shooting

In regard to “Jackson’s Rhetoric About Shooting Raises Concerns,” Feb. 26: As a resident of Riverside, it disturbs me that our mayor, Ron Loveridge, is weary of [the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s rhetoric], but he is not weary that the police officers in his city are lacking community/human relations training.

The brutal shooting of Tyisha Miller has shaken the little trust that this community had for its local police. This is not just true for blacks and browns, but for whites too. The mayor’s failure to address this issue shows that he still has his head buried in the sand. The mayor knows nothing about the Hispanic and black world that exists within Riverside.
