Gensia Sicor Posts $13.9-Million Loss for 4th Quarter

Irvine pharmaceutical manufacturer Gensia Sicor Inc. reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $13.9 million, or 17 cents a share, which included a pretax charge of $3.7 million related to its former subsidiary, Gensia Automedics, which Gensia shed in December 1997. A year ago, the company posted a net loss of $22 million, or 29 cents a share, which included a write-off of $11.5 million associated with the divestiture of Gensia Automedics. Revenue declined 3% to $43.4 million from $44.6 million. For the year, Gensia reported a net loss of $24.6 million, or 31 cents a share, compared to a net loss of $82.7 million, or $1.15 a share, for the prior year. Revenue increased 19% to $178.5 million from $149.7 million.
