Web Does the Honors for Women

Share

Web surfers can brush up on their women’s history at https://www.historychannel.com. Throughout March, the official Web address for the History Channel features daily profiles of fearless females in honor of Women’s History Month.

The subjects range from household names like Betty Friedan, who theorized on “the feminine mystique” and helped found the National Organization for Women, to Britain’s first female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher. The site also introduces the life stories of lesser-known trailblazers such as Amelia Bloomer, a champion of women’s dress equality who invented bloomers, and Katherine Bement Davis, New York’s first woman commissioner of corrections. Each profile links to other pages on the site where there is more information about the subject.

The History Channel also salutes women with special television programming this month, including “Women Spies of World War II,” which will be broadcast Sunday, and an episode of “20th Century With Mike Wallace,” a segment about first ladies, scheduled to be shown on March 19.
