Employment Center to Mark Official Opening

Share

An employment center that matches job seekers with employers and other work-related services will have its official opening Friday morning.

The Chatsworth-Northridge One-Stop Work Force and Industry Development Center has computers, faxes and copy machines that people can use for free during their job search, said Matthew P. Lynch, president and chief executive officer of Build One Stop.

“For job seekers there is nothing they could need they can’t get or find at One Stop,” Lynch said. “For employers, their best bet is to give us their job openings and let us fill them.”

Although the center officially opens Friday, it has been in operation for the past year, helping 500 people get training and jobs, Lynch said.

“The whole purpose is to help them find jobs that can sustain them,” Lynch said.

Build One Stop, funded by the city’s Workforce Development Division, has 15 centers in Los Angeles, including four in the Valley. The project targets applicants who have been in jail or are trying to make the transition from welfare to work, he said.

Among its services are providing employment specialists for applicants who speak only Spanish and coordinators for people who have disabilities or lack transportation.

The public is invited to the 10:30 a.m. opening at 20500 Nordhoff St. For more information, call (818) 701-9800 or (818) 898-0020.
