* Re “Grade-Schoolers Give Mayor Advice,” March 4.

We were blown away to read in the newspapers that Ventura Mayor Jim Friedman visits local schools and says to the fourth-graders: “Now that you know that the mayor and the City Council run everything, what do you think?”

Might it not be closer to the truth for the mayor to say that, in fact, the citizens run everything through their elected officials, including himself?

He might tell the children that his job is to be a translator between the people and the staff, which actually runs things.
