Cal Lutheran Receives Grant for Lab

* Cal Lutheran University received a $75,000 grant from the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation. The money will be used to equip a teaching and student-faculty research laboratory in the university’s Ahmanson Science Center.

Petroleum Institute Awards Scholarships

* The California Coastal Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute awarded scholarships to 11 high school students.

The $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Handri Liong, Seema Patel and Teresita Perez, all of Oxnard High School; Gregory Kien Hua of Fillmore High School; and Matthew Laitner of Hueneme High School.

The $500 scholarships were awarded to Abdul Wakil and Jennifer Lin, both of Thousand Oaks High School; Jesus Sandoval of Oxnard High School; Michelle Collazo of Hueneme High School; Marleen Mahan of Rio Mesa High School; and Amy Lamboley of Dos Pueblos High School in Santa Barbara.

Social Workers Group to Present Awards

* The local chapter of the National Assn. of Social Workers announced the winners of its annual awards program.

They are Administrator of the Year, John Brown; Social Worker of the Year, Genie Wheeler; Public Citizen of the Year, Susan Lacey. An awards ceremony will be held Saturday in Ventura.
