Justin Fargas, a freshman tailback at Michigan who was one of the top college recruits in the nation last year from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High, is expected to miss the 1999 football season after complications from a broken leg suffered last November. Fargas broke his right leg against Wisconsin Nov. 14, underwent surgery two days later and was in the rehabilitation process when doctors determined the bone was not healing properly. Home for spring break, Fargas decided to have a second surgery performed by Dr. Donald Wiss at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital last Tuesday. He was released Saturday. Two metal plates were inserted into his leg. He’ll be on crutches for the next three months, then begin his recovery. . . . Patrick Norton, a top junior fullback from Newhall Hart, has given UCLA an oral commitment for 2000.
