Irvine is the two-time defending Division I champion and Laguna Hills is the two-time defending Division II champion. . . . After missing last year’s high school diving season, Capistrano Valley junior Erica Sorgi will be competing for the Cougars again. Sorgi, an internationally ranked diver, missed last year because of her national and international diving schedule. She won the Division I title as a freshman, setting a division record in the process. . . . Villa Park will be without junior Kristen Conklin, who has transferred to Esperanza. A breaststroke specialist, Conklin was a key component for the Spartans. . . . It has been almost four years since Amanda Beard won a gold and two silver medals at the 1996 Olympics. As Beard prepares for her second Olympic try next year, the Irvine senior will have one last chance to set a national high school record in the 100 breaststroke at the Southern Section finals. She tied the record in her freshman year in 1996.
