In Defense of Doctor

* Re “Doctor Refuses to Settle Malpractice Suit for $1, Faces Trial,” March 15.

I am completely flabbergasted by the accusations in this case. To read that the plaintiffs accuse Dr. Edward Feldman of being quick to perform a caesarean section for “his own convenience” and to obtain a higher fee is absurd.

Five years ago I was the perfect candidate for a hysterectomy, based on my medical history and condition at the time. However, knowing of my desire to someday bear children, Dr. Feldman did everything in his power to preserve my fertility. I am literally alive today and the mother of a beautiful 2-year-old daughter because of Dr. Feldman’s intelligence, thoroughness and commitment to his patients.

I am outraged that anyone would doubt this man’s dedication to his patients’ well being. Thank God for Dr. Feldman.

* I am writing to support Dr. Edward Feldman’s excellent reputation as an outstanding and competent physician. I feel sickened that such an excellent obstetrician-gynecologist should be slandered in this manner.

In a society where morals and ethics are difficult to teach to our children and harder to follow ourselves, Dr. Feldman is an example of professional integrity. He has been my OB/GYN and has delivered all of my children. He has earned my trust and respect. I am extremely proud of the way he has chosen to go to trial and defend his practice.

* I have received nothing but the best care from Dr. Feldman. My 16-year-old daughter saw him recently for her first gynecological exam; I would not think of taking her to anyone else.

It seems to me that there are too many people out there who are sue-happy and out to make a buck. We could use more physicians like Dr. Feldman.
