Neighbors living behind the McPherson athletic fields won some light shields and extra trees but failed to convince city officials this week to dim the turquoise roof of a concession stand. City Council members voted 4 to 1 Tuesday to keep the turquoise color of the roof, which has irritated some neighbors on Ruth Place because of its brightness.

Community Services Director Gary Wann said the entire roof would have to be replaced at a cost of $60,000 because the color was enmeshed in the baked enamel. But planting six trees to shield the building would cost just $2,400, he said. Neighbors said they were unhappy with the decision and threatened to move ahead with legal action.
