Residents eventually may be prohibited from feeding large numbers of birds. The council this week authorized the city attorney to begin drafting the wording for such an amendment to its bird sanctuary ordinance, created in the 1970s. The city received information from a biologist that feeding wild ducks grain and seeds could weaken the shells of their eggs. The council brought up the proposal while considering whether a homeowner was causing a public nuisance by feeding and sheltering large numbers of wild ducks in his swimming pool and backyard. The homeowner told the council that the feedings have stopped.
