Buzios Views

Having spent some time at Buzios, Brazil, my wife and I were astonished at how such a long piece (“Beached in Buzios,” March 14) could be so incomplete and even erroneous.

First, no one with any sense at all could ever compare it to Santa Barbara; a primitive Lahaina maybe. While you can pay what writer Kathleen Beckett did for accommodations, you can also rent a four-bedroom house, as we did, for about $30 a day. As far as food goes, meals are unimaginative at best. Pizza, for example, is melted cheese on some crust with a bottle of catsup on the side.

She was correct about the beaches; they are some of the most spectacular in the world. She was incorrect in implying that you must take a dangerous bus trip or a cab from Rio. Air service, while expensive, is available.

Buzios is a fascinating place, and worth visiting if you happen to be stuck in Rio and looking for a safe place to lay your head.
