GOVERNMENT CONTRACT AWARDS

* Union Engineering of Ventura was awarded a contract for $586,915 from Ventura County to repair 1,200 feet of bank along the Ventura River with concrete riprap.

The work is scheduled for completion by June 8.

* Rockwell Science Center of Thousand Oaks won a $449,732 contract from the Air Force in Arlington, Va., for research and development.

* T.A. Staben Inc. in Somis has received a contract for $98,856 from Ventura County to repair storm damage on Torrey Road in Piru. The project involves reconstruction of 1,165 feet of road that was damaged in the 1998 storms.

The project is expected to continue through April 19. Officials said at least one lane of the road will be open to traffic throughout the project.

* Ferrie Engineering Construction in Ojai was awarded a contract for $24,751 from Ventura County to repair storm damage on Deer Creek Road off California 1 near the Los Angeles County line. The road was damaged during the 1998 storms.

* Union Engineering of Ventura was awarded a contract for $4,660 from Ventura County to repair a broken pipe on Silver Strand Beach at Plaza Avenue in Oxnard. The pipe allows storm water to flow onto the beach.
