Gas Line Break Leads to Fire, Road Closure

Share

A broken gas line and a resulting fire closed part of Gonzales Road on Friday, tying up traffic for more than an hour, Oxnard firefighters said.

A landscape contractor working at 1889 Rice Road severed a gas line while working, releasing natural gas that was the probable source of flames that knocked out two windows in a new building owned by the Sares-Regis Group, fire officials said.

Five fire engines and one truck responded to control the fire while waiting for the gas company to turn off the gas, fire officials said.

Firefighters closed Gonzales Road at Rice Road in both directions and rerouted traffic for about an hour and 15 minutes.

Fire officials said the new building, expected to house First American Title, incurred $15,000 in damage to the structure and $5,000 to its contents.
