Event at Synagogue

Hilary E. MacGregor’s piece, “Synagogue Honors Italians Who Sheltered Jews During Holocaust” (April 17), crystalized an event so well it warranted more coverage than simply the Valley section.

The event occurred in the San Fernando Valley but the historical value was certainly universal and justified being read citywide. I attended the event as did hundreds of people from areas farther than the Valley.

I subscribe to The Times and live in Santa Monica but was apprised of the article by a friend in the Valley. I know that others who did not attend would certainly be interested in reading anything so significant and especially knowing anything that Rabbi Harold Schulweis is endorsing, since his reputation is at the very least, national and very influential.

Schulweis’ moving words in his sermon warranted being heard by more than the capacity crowd--Jews and non-Jews.
