Palm View, a 40-unit apartment complex built to provide affordable housing for entertainment professionals with AIDS, has opened in West Hollywood.

The $6.1-million complex at 980 N. Palm Ave. was developed by the Actors Fund of America and the West Hollywood Community Housing Corp.

Major donors to the project were actor Carroll O’Connor and his wife, Nancy, and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Each gave $250,000.

Palm View consists of 29 one-bedroom and 11 two-bedroom units and a 49-space parking garage in three newly constructed buildings surrounding a central courtyard. The one-bedroom units rent for $350 a month; two-bedrooms units are $530.

The project was built on a site occupied by two 70-year-old Craftsman-style bungalows, which were restored and relocated on the site for use by residents and the property manager.

Palm View was designed by Killefer Flammang Purtill Architects, Santa Monica. The builder was Levine Construction Co. The project, owned and managed by the West Hollywood housing group, was funded by the Actors Fund, the city of West Hollywood, the Community Development Commission of Los Angeles County, Citibank and the Enterprise Social Investment Corp., which syndicated $4 million in low-income housing tax credits.
