ORANGE COUNTY EARNINGS

Hines Horticulture Inc.: The Irvine operator of commercial nurseries reported first-quarter net income of $1.7 million, or 8 cents a share, contrasted with a net loss of $3 million, or 39 cents a share, for the first quarter of 1998. Sales rose 23% to a record $59.4 million from $48.2 million.
