Panel Recommends Ending Mileage Reimbursement for Supervisors

Just days after recommending Ventura County supervisors receive a raise, a citizens advisory committee has suggested supervisors’ car allowances be reduced.
Currently, supervisors can receive county-leased cars that cost about $375 a month, or be given $375 a month toward the upkeep of their own cars. Either way, they are also reimbursed 31 cents for every mile they drive.
The Blue Ribbon Salary Review Committee unanimously decided Monday that supervisors should continue receiving a county car for $375 a month, but that the mileage reimbursements be halted.
On Thursday, the committee decided that supervisors should receive a 5% salary increase, to $75,491 a year.
Supervisors will consider the recommendations during their May 18 meeting, said Barbara Journet, the county’s human resources director.
