Computer Parts Unlimited Signs Lease on Larger Site

Computer Parts Unlimited is bursting out of its Moorpark facility.

With desks and computer parts crammed into nooks and crannies of the 40,000-square-foot site and 70 parking spaces for nearly 200 employees, the company is clearly in need of some wider walls.

To accommodate the company’s growth, Computer Parts Unlimited has signed a 10-year lease on a site twice the size of its current headquarters. It plans to relocate in September to a 104,000-square-foot site in the Tapo Canyon Business Center in Simi Valley. Company officials expect the site to easily handle current production levels and enable growth for years to come.

“Right now we have people in the hallways, desks in the hallways, the warehouse spilling out onto the street,” President Casey Jackson said. “There’s no room left in the building to process the amount of product we’re processing.”

Computer Parts Unlimited is a computer wholesale reseller, distributor and repair, refurbishing and exchange operation with large corporate clients making up the bulk of the business. The company deals in computer parts and equipment of leading manufacturers including Packard Bell, Compaq, NEC, Texas Instruments and Hewlett Packard.

Jackson said his company’s success, as well as its wide scope of services, requires a lot of space for both employees and supplies. The new facility, he said, should provide plenty of room for both.

“A lot of people are needed for repair, and a lot of room is needed to store what we have for distribution,” he said. “This is a very people-intensive operation. We have 200 people now, and I see us having over 300 within a year.”

There was a time, Jackson said, when such growth would have come as a surprise.

“When we started, this is way beyond what we ever thought would happen,” Jackson said. “But we’ve gotten used to this sort of growth.”

The privately held company, founded in 1991, was named to Inc. magazine’s list of 500 fastest-growing firms in both 1996 and 1997. In 1996 the company ranked No. 32 for a growth in revenues from $201,000 to $8.9 million over a five-year span and a growth of staff during that time of three employees to 50.

In 1997, Computer Parts Unlimited ranked No. 356 for a five-year revenue jump from $1.4 million to $11.7 million and a growth in number of employees from eight to 75.
