Share

Dignitaries, environmentalists and celebrities today will dedicate an energy-efficient new home community that has won praise from President Clinton.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of Energy Dan Reicher, actors Ed Begley Jr. and Ted Danson, and Los Angeles City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter are expected to take part in today’s 11 a.m. ceremony at the complex at Hubbard Street and Ralston Avenue.

Clinton applauded the project for its innovation technology when he visited the site a year ago.

The Village Green development is one of the nation’s first home communities to be built under the Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing program, said Marty Zweben, a spokesman for the developer.

Village Green consists of 186 homes built with extra-thick insulation, natural gas air-conditioners and solar roof panels that generate enough electricity to run the homes’ lighting and appliances, he said. Energy-efficient equipment and materials include gas water heaters and windows with special glass designed to block 87% of ultraviolet rays.
