The parents of Louise Woodward, the British au pair convicted of killing a baby in her care in Massachusetts, have been arrested amid fraud allegations over their daughter’s defense fund, news reports said Friday.

Cheshire police, who have been investigating allegations against Woodward’s parents, said they arrested two people May 6 in connection with the case. Police, however, did not name the two people or say whether they had been charged.

British news media reports, however, said the two arrested were Woodward’s parents, Susan and Gary Woodward. The news organizations cited unidentified sources.

Sean Sexton, Susan Woodward’s lawyer, said in a statement that his client “remains confident that she will be vindicated in due course.”

Cheshire police are working with the FBI in an investigation of Woodward’s parents after allegations that a forged invoice was used by Susan Woodward to claim more than $14,000 in rent and expenses during her stay at the home of her daughter’s lawyer.
