Re “Unauthorized Access is the Problem; Limits Are a Solution,” May 9.

Here’s another example of trying to legislate a quick fix to a problem. Even if the government is able to force gun purchasers to buy trigger locks with the sale of every gun, who’s going to be there to ensure that the locks are installed?

The issue is not how inexpensive these devices are. Seat belts come with every car, but you still see people driving around without themselves or their children buckled up. When will these legislators learn that you can’t impose common sense through legislation? Safety is something that is taught and learned, not purchased in the gun shop for $5.
