Infant Carrier-Car Seat Mishaps Probed
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating whether handles on some Kolcraft Enterprises infant carrier-car seats can unlatch or slip when they’re used outside the vehicle, dumping babies to the ground. The agency has received 1,992 complaints about the handle, which either slips out of the locked position or detaches, flipping the seat forward or backward. Parents reported that 91 babies were tossed from their seats, resulting in 54 injuries. The models are Kolcraft Infant Riders manufactured from 1995-1998 and the Secura, manufactured from 1997-1999.
