Woman Sentenced in Gay Student’s Killing
The girlfriend of a man who pleaded guilty in the kidnapping and murder of a homosexual college student was sentenced in Laramie, Wyo., to 15 to 24 months in prison for lying to police and destroying evidence. Chasity Pasley, 23, could have been sentenced to three years in prison and fined up to $3,000 for being an accessory in the October slaying of Matthew Shepard, 21. Pasley’s boyfriend, Russell Henderson, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in April. His friend Aaron McKinney is scheduled to go on trial this summer and if convicted could face the death penalty. Shepard’s brutal murder put a spotlight on hate crimes.
