A Golf Course Is the Wrong Priority

Re: “Mile Square Park Hosts Its Last Scout-O-Rama,” May 9:

We wonder what is happening to our boys, and we think that adding more psychologists and social workers will help them cope.

Perhaps more Ritalin is called for. Calming them into robots, maybe that’s the ticket.

But no, in Orange County we seem to think the answer is to build more and larger golf courses so some day they can play this elitist game.

I certainly hope that our county’s young men can make the jump to manhood without anything in between, until, of course, they are ready for golf.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the last remaining nondenominational organizations in America that still tries to develop courageous, decent and honorable young men.

Does it not occur to anyone around here that they shouldn’t have to look for a place for Scout-O-Rama? Doesn’t this fine organization deserve a permanent home in a county that only seems to show false concern for its young men?

How dare we build yet another golf course!

We need to get “zero tolerance” for anything that doesn’t promote the welfare of our young men and women.

Gated communities will not save us, as is evident by recent events. As always, we carry our ignorance with us.

If adult children in this county would spend as much time and money on their children’s welfare as they do on their own self-centered games, hobbies and entertainment, you might see a turnaround.

Our children are out of control because many parents refuse to take responsibility and actually be a parent!

Maybe if we take out the remaining Boys and Girls Clubs in Orange County, we can get a couple more nine-hole courses.
