Dine in Distinctive Pasadena Homes

The public will get a chance to dine in some of Pasadena’s loveliest and most architecturally interesting homes at the second annual Big Night Out, which benefits the AIDS Service Center.

The June 5 event will begin at 5 p.m. with a kickoff party at the Pasadena home of Stan and Julie Dorobek. Titled “Under the Big Top,” the party will feature a live and silent auction, a hosted bar, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment.

Following the party, guests will attend one of 18 intimate dinners, most of which will be hosted at some of Pasadena’s most distinctive homes. The dinners will accommodate anywhere from 16 to 24 guests.

For example, one group of guests will dine at a newly restored Greene and Greene original known as the Blacker House.

Architectural historian Robert Winter will also open his house, the former home of Ernest Batchelder, to 18 guests.

Part of the National Registry of Historic Places, the home features Batchelder tiles of every type.

Dinners are also planned at a Los Feliz home near Griffith Park and atop the roof of the downtown Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Guests who purchase tickets for $175 a person are guaranteed a spot at one of six dinners of their choosing. Tickets for $125 provide guests with a spot at a dinner to be chosen by the event’s organizers.
