From Times Wire Reports

A radio beacon failure at Boston’s Logan International Airport forced officials to turn away more than 100 planes as morning fog and rain enveloped the one runway used for landing in such weather. Airport officials said thousands of passengers were stranded and air traffic in the Northeast was affected by the delays. The problem was caused by the failure of a piece of navigation equipment called a localizer, airport spokesman Phil Orlandella said.
