A 12-year veteran of the Santa Monica Police Department was convicted Monday of attempted voluntary manslaughter of another officer in 1997.

A Torrance Superior Court jury deliberated a day and a half before finding Linda Catherine Brown, 38, guilty of shooting Officer Kevin Derek Cummings for ending their romantic relationship, Deputy Dist. Atty. Gary Nielsen said.

Brown shot Cummings, 35, three times in the upper body and once in the leg with a .22-caliber handgun at her Ladera Heights home Oct. 1, 1997.

Cummings drove himself to an Inglewood hospital after the shooting.

He has recovered from his injuries, and he testified against Brown.

This was the second trial for Brown, whose first trial ended in November 1998 when the jury deadlocked 10 to 2 for conviction.

Brown is scheduled to be sentenced June 22.
