Police on Thursday continued to investigate the shooting deaths of Tara and Terassa Butler, the 15-year-old twin sisters who were killed in their home Monday afternoon.

Richard Allen Washington Jr., an ex-boyfriend of Tara Butler, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, but no charges had been filed against him Thursday.

Washington, 19, turned himself in to police Wednesday night. Police have until today to release or charge him. The girls were killed in their home in the 400 block of West Kelso Street. Police found them about 4:20 p.m., shortly after neighbors reported gunfire at the house. Witnesses told police they saw Washington leaving the residence about the same time.

Tara is believed to have argued with Washington about four hours earlier, and police took a battery report about the run-in at a restaurant near the home and at Inglewood High School, where the well-liked girls were sophomores.
