Shakespeare’s Plague

Just a correction of Sarah Montoya’s “correction” (Saturday Letters, May 15) to the Cybertainment article on Shakespeare sites (May 7). There was a “Great Plague” in London in 1665, as Montoya notes, but there were also severe outbreaks of the plague in Elizabethan London in 1592 and ’93 (when about 11,000 people died), in 1603 and again in 1608--in other words, throughout Shakespeare’s writing career. (F.P. Wilson’s “The Plague in Shakespeare’s London” is an excellent resource on these matters.)
