Primary Voting
Re “Saving Primary Reform,” editorial, May 25: I do not agree with The Times that the Burton bill is “reasonable.” Nothing will inform Democrats who vote for a Republican presidential candidate or Republicans who vote for a Democrat that they will be wasting their votes. Voters should be entitled to assume that any vote offered to them on the ballot is an effective one. No ballot that deliberately deceives voters is a “reasonable” one.
The rules of both parties permit delegates to be selected by primaries or by caucuses. Twice, the voters have rejected primaries that comply with the rules of the national parties. The only reasonable solution is for California to select its delegates by caucuses.
