Freeh Wrote to Praise Starr, Report Says
A few days after independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr left his post, FBI Director Louis J. Freeh sent him a letter praising his work and his personal integrity, according to a published report from Washington. “You have always respected the truth and have never engaged in any misleading or evasive conduct or practice,” Freeh wrote, as reported by Newsweek magazine in its Nov. 8 issue. Freeh’s letter never mentioned President Clinton. Starr stepped down Oct. 18 and was replaced by one of his assistants, Robert W. Ray, to complete several investigations.
