The Arizona sports information office subtracted yardage from the totals of tailback Trung Canidate on Wednesday, leaving him with more to make up before he sets the school career rushing record. Sports information director Tom Duddleston said that 73 yards were inadvertently added to Canidate’s totals after the Wildcats’ 35-31 victory over Texas Christian on Sept. 5.

On that basis, he was supposed to have 3,413 yards in his 30 games as a running back--only 88 yards from the record of 3,501 set by Ontiwaun Carter from 1991-94. With the subtraction, Canidate has 3,340 yards.

A man claiming to be an NFL agent’s representative offered Louisiana State assistant Mike Haywood $30,000 for help signing nose guard Anthony McFarland before last spring’s draft, authorities said. Randall Menard was charged with bribery for his alleged effort to sign McFarland, who went on to become the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ No. 1 draft pick. . . . Texas Tech suspended linebacker Dorian Pitts indefinitely for violating team policy.
